Jobs in Octopath Traveler 2 have their distinct skill and movesets, with each of the eight characters beginning as one of them. As you venture across Solistia, however, you can find Job Guilds that will give you Licenses and allow Characters to gain a secondary job.

There isn’t a reason to not let people try sub-classing, as they get access to double the Skills to enhance their usefulness, gain melee weapon classes, and gain new Support Skills. Even if you decide to switch off of that job, that character still gets to keep the Support Skills they learned from it, giving them the ability to become stronger and stronger the more they dabble and learn. They’ll even gain a cool^ new outfit!

However, just like in the original, some characters and Jobs work well together better than others. Here, we’ll list off who or what job works best in combination with others to help you set up your best party and get the most out of each of the Travelers.

Agnea: Best Secondary Jobs For Dancer

Agnea starts off as a Dancer and combos well with the Scholar secondary Job.

Doing so turns Agnea into someone with access to almost every type of elemental damage, as she already has access to wind, but will instantly gain access to fire and ice, and can gain lightning quickly afterwards. Dancers are best at buffing party members, and while Osvald as the Scholar can specialize in lots of elemental attack, Agnea can make use of the Scholar’s also exceptional buffs to supplement her already great buffs.

However, depending on when you get the Inventor Secret Job, Agnea makes perhaps the best Inventor out of anyone in the cast. Since the Dancer mostly specializes in buffs and support to other characters, an Inventor Job can supplement that with assistance like Critical Scope and Elemental Bomb Bottle while just adding to her utility. If there are key inventions in cooldown, she can easily pass the time with her other great buffs. Combining the Springy Boots with her EX Skill Windy Refrain, as well as the Inventor Support Skill A Step Ahead, can ensure that you’ll always be on the front foot against anyone. It also doesn’t hurt that Agnea looks just adorable dancing in the little Inventor’s get-up.

Apothecary, Cleric, and Thief also make for solid secondary Jobs. Apothecary and Cleric combo great with the Dancer’s natural support build and help turn her into a healer, while Thief can help Agnea’s speed and give quick access to dark magic and swords.

Castti: Best Secondary Jobs For Apothecary

Castti starts off as the Apothecary and combos well with the Cleric secondary Job.

She starts out with exceptional potential for buffing and healing singular targets, while also inflicting damaging status ailments to foes. With the Cleric, she’ll gain access to light magic and also the ability to focus on more than just one target. If nothing else, the Cleric Support Skill Resilience increases the amount of HP she can restore for every heal she does, whether it be Cleric magic or her wonderful Apothecary concoctions.

Once you unlock the Secret Jobs, Castti makes an awesome Conjurer, especially if she’s spent some time as a Cleric or Scholar to boost her SP potential. The Conjurer is the ultimate support job and Castti is already a great supporter. With the Conjurer, she can add additional elemental attacks to the party’s attacks, as well as still imbue the party’s attacks with supplemental effects like blindness or poison. Those multiple attacks give more chances to give those harmful effects.

The Apothecary also does well with the Scholar if you choose to make Castti more of an offensive-minded supporter, giving her a chance to cause effect damage with elemental magic.

Hikari: Best Secondary Jobs For Warrior

Hikari starts off as the Warrior and combos exceptionally with the Hunter as a secondary Job.

Hikari already has absurd levels of physical attack and the Hunter compliments this beautifully by expanding his range of melee weapons from just swords and polearms to axes and bows. This gives him otherworldly versatility when it comes to capitalizing on any enemy’s melee weaknesses. It also gives him access to both the Support Skills Heighten Senses and Salt in the Wound, the former of which helps him hit first to puncture those enemy weaknesses. Salt in the Wound gives him a high chance of acting again when breaking someone and considering his range of weaponry, he could be doing frequently.

However, if you find the Secret Jobs, Hikari makes almost undisputedly the best Armsmaster for the late game. If you thought his high physical attack and access to more melee weapons with the Hunter was great, the Armsmaster has access to all six melee weapon classes and Skills that allow him to flex in all his glory. All of the Armsmaster’s Support Skills seem to be created for Hikari specifically as well, enhancing his already solid penchant for critical hits, restoring HP for breaking, but especially filling the latent power gauge when hitting any weak point at all. Given Hikari’s absurd damage ability with his Latent Power, this is all just a mad good combination.

If you want to help support Hikari in any of these above classes, he should spend some time as an Apothecary to pick up the Support Skills Vigorous Victor to restore himself during multiple battles and Inspiriting Break, which can restore his incredibly low SP in the middle of battle if the Hunter and especially the Armsmaster’s Skills start to drain him.

Ochette (and Throne): Best Secondary Jobs For Hunter and Thief

We’re putting these two together because, if you couldn’t tell from their grouping, the Hunter and Thief classes complement each other perfectly, especially when considering Ochette and Throne’s special abilities. They also both pair well with Warrior, similar to the Hikari example above.

With Ochette, gaining access to swords, daggers, and even dark magic expands her already great versatility into absurd levels. This, paired with Thief Skills like Armor Corrosive and Swift Step help set up fantastic combos with her beasts as well as her regular melee attacks. If you can master it enough to unlock Aeber’s Reckoning, Ochette’s sky-high speed will allow her to deal a tremendous amount of damage to all foes since the damage output is based on that speed. Gaining access to the Support Skills Fleetfoot and Ensnare area also huge plusses.

Meanwhile, Throne gains access to axes and bows to expand her stratagems. Considering she and Ochette have similar speed and critical growths, she can capitalize on lots of the Hunter critical help. Support Skills like Heighten Senses works gangbusters in combination with the Thief Skill Surprise Attack, and Salt in the Wound combined with Throne’s Latent Power of being able to act twice in a row already can potentially give Throne three consecutive moves in a turn with no answer from an opponent.

As mentioned above with Hikari, Warrior compliments both nicely as well, with Ochette benefiting from it the most. Similarly, they are also both decent options for the Armsmaster when you find those Secret Jobs, though perhaps not to the extent as Hikari. They can both benefit greatly from the Dancer Job as well.

Osvald: Best Secondary Jobs For Scholar

Osvald starts off as the Scholar and combos wonderfully with the Merchant secondary Job.

Not only is the Merchant the only other class that really bumps up Osvald’s already high potential for elemental attack, but it gives him the ability to Sidestep and Rest to protect himself from physical attacks and restore his health and SP without using up anyone else’s turn. Boost-Start and Full Power are also a great Support Skill for him to give him a head start on BP and lets him use his potent Latent Power immediately, which is important for boss battles.

If you can find the Secret Jobs, however, you’ll find that Osvald is an absolutely devastating Arcanist to the point of, similar to Hikari and the Armsmaster, it seems designed for him. This powerful enhanced mage Job gives him access to dark and light magic, as well as further control his SP consumption and recover it. Then there’s just the sheer amount of magical attack power that the class is designed to utilize and you have an even more dangerous Osvald on your hands.

Apothecary and Cleric are also good secondary Job options for Osvald to give him healing powers, although Cleric might have the side effect of having Osvald splitting the uses of his already quickly drainable supply of SP.

Partitio: Best Secondary Jobs For Merchant

Partitio starts off as the Merchant and can combo with almost any other class fairly adequately, but works well with a secondary Thief.

The main issue with finding a solid secondary suitor for Partitio is his jack-of-all-stats-ness, which makes finding what he’s truly good at a little tough. But as a Thief, he’ll gain access to dark magic and two additional weapon classes in swords and daggers. It also helps bump up his speed to possibly act faster in battle, allowing him to use any of his Merchant Skills to hand out support before party members or the opponent.

While Partitio has some difficulty finding a real solid secondary Job, he ironically is a great fit for not one but two Secret Jobs: the Inventor and the Conjurer. Similar to Agnea and the Dancer having a bevy of buffs for the party, Partitio’s support Skills are reinforced with ease by the Inventor gizmos. Same can be said of the Conjurer, which is the ultimate support Job, and Partitio having loads of that to begin with that can give you loads more options to assist the party.

Like with almost all other classes, Apothecary is another solid secondary choice for Partitio.

Temenos: Best Secondary Jobs For Cleric

Temenos starts off as the Cleric and combos excellently with the Dancer secondary Job.

Temenos is already great at team healing, but the Cleric job lacks more team augmentation and support, which is where the Dancer can give him a wider range of options. It also gives him access to both daggers and wind magic, and when paired with his natural light magic, gives him access to two of the game’s rarest types of elemental damage. In addition, all of the Dancer’s Support Skills are a great help to Temenos perform his Cleric duties even better, particularly if you combine The Show Goes On with his Talent, Judgment.

Once you acquire the Secret Jobs, Tenemos becomes perhaps the best Conjurer you could ask for. It assists tremendously in his efforts to, well, assist the party by supplementing his mass HP restoring with the power to grant more powers to everyone’s attacks. In addition, he has the largest SP potential in the game, giving him ample reserves to be able to not have to pick and choose which SP expensive buffs the class boasts; he can do them all and still be relatively well off. And he can pack even more in with the SP Saver Support Skill, quadrupling his potential with the Job over other potential candidates.

Other good sub-job choices include Scholar, Thief, and Apothecary. Scholar might make him split his SP usage, but gives him the option to have even more buffs, while Thief gives him access to dark magic and helps up his speed so he can heal ahead of any opponent’s big moves. For this, he also makes a solid Inventor as well. Apothecary helps round out his potential by amplifying his healing capabilities even further.

It must be stated that these are just our recommendations, not an absolute final word on what these Characters and Jobs can do. Feel free to experiment and play around with secondary Jobs for whatever needs fit your team and playstyle. Every character, job, and job combination can be viable in some way and we invite you to find them!
