Who is Best to Start With?

Our recommendation for the best starter is Throne, with Ochette as a close second.

Throne has the Steal ability, which allows her to gather all kinds of resources without spending a dime. She also begins in one of the larger cities in Solistia, giving her lots of targets from which to steal from. Her starting speed and Leave No Trace makes her a fierce battler, even when solo. She also has access to Dark magic instantly, which is one of the rarer elemental attributes in the game.

On top of all that, she also starts virtually next door to both Tenemos, the resident healer, and Osvald, whose access to every major element of magic is what made the scholar class the best choice to start within the first Octopath Traveler. She’s also a boat ride away from Ochette, who you’ll have an easier time reaching because all the Stealing allows you to save up more money for the ferry to Ochette’s island.
